Introduction to Grief & Bereavement 

This full day workshop provides a unique lens on how individuals cope and adapt to loss over the long term.  The stories of five 911 survivors, followed over 10 years through intimate video interviews, provide the backdrop for an introductory session on the changing nature of loss.  Using a combination of individual, small and large group activities, participants will gain new insights into long term coping mechanisms.  As well, participants will gain up to date knowledge on the latest in bereavement research and best practices.


Learning Objectives

At the completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Compare the dynamics of loss and traumatic loss.
  • Recognize how individuals respond to loss over time.
  • Discuss communication, support and intervention strategies for families and individuals.

**This session can be adapted to be part of a training curriculum for volunteers in the bereavement community
