Long Term Empathy

I’ve heard such lovely stories about the “long term empathy” people have experienced after a loss. The HR professional who drops by every year just before Mother’s Day to ask “how are you managing?” to the grieving parent. The friend at work who remembers that next week is your Sibling’s death day and acknowledges it.

None of us are perfect and we may say or do something that we instantly regret, and all you need to do is say, “oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.” The person will understand.
